Cd-rw

Maybe someone knows why Slackware 8.1 doesn't recognise TEAC CD-W512? Because everything is fine in Red Hat, Mandy, SuSe. Thanks in advance!

Is slack not recognising the cd drive or can you not copy with it

if its not recognising it then check your ide and power connections (sounds simple but always check hardware before fiddling)

if this is fine check that the device is listed

cat /proc/pci (or something to this effect)

also try cdrecord --scanbus (i think)

if the drive is there try mounting it

if this works then id assume you have not installed the scsi emulation for cdrw

do an lsmod

and post the output for us

if you dont find an ide-scsi module loaded then its either compiled into the kernel (I dont know how to tell this sorry) or its not loaded

if the problem is the latter (not loaded) do modprobe "module name" and ensure that it is uncommencted in the /etc/rc.d/rc.modules files

hope this helps.

I don't know if it's very important but I forgot to say that this is my secind drive. The first one is TEAC CD-ROM 40x. I checked /proc/pci and my CD-RW isn't listed. The ide-scsi module is loaded and it's uncommented. I didn't quite understand that: cdrecord --scanbus thing so I didn't check this. Ohh, and like you asked here's the output of lsmod:
Module Size Used by Not tainted
radeon 95288 0
ide-scsi 7458 0
8139too 13792 1
mii 1008 0 [8139too]
emu10k1 55680 1
sound 52876 0 [emu10k1]
ac97_codec 9568 0 [emu10k1]
soundcore 3236 7 [emu10k1 sound]

Like I said, the ide-scsi is there. (Oh, by the way, can someone tell me how to make a screen dump(setterm -dump 1 doesn't work ))

cdrecord --scanbus(i think its scanbus) actually scans your ide cables for drives to see if thier ready for writing and installed correctly.

Try it at the command line

or if it doesent work do a man cdrecord or

cdrecord -help

tlo find the correct command

Well then, you should go about installing it. Or getting a program that includes it. It should be on your Slack CD. Use pkgtool to install packages from your CD.

Then, as dai suggested, cdrecord -scanbus should give you a place to start.

OK, I've installed and did tehh cdrecord -scanbus command. It gives out an error:
cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/pg*'. Cannot open SCSI driver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure oyu are root.

So what should I do now?

Now you should turn ide-scsi emulation for your CD-R/RW, search forums here it was addressed more than once.
