also, make sure you have scsi emulation support in your kernel. i got the exact same errors you're getting and i fixed them by including the following in my kernel:

<*> Include IDE/ATAPI CDROM support
<M> SCSI emulation support

those are both under ATA/IDE/MFM/RLL Support, and then IDE, ATA and ATAPI Block devices from there.

hot damn it worked! neo, you are a god. I must've been screwing something up. modprobe ide-scsi comes back clean and the software sees it as a burner. you are a god, thank you!

How can i enable ISO 9600 CDROM Support
in kernel 2.4.22 or 2.4.20-8??
Which entry was it under if i use make menuconfig or make xconfig??
