cant mount ipod

I am currently running slackware 11 with the 2.6.22 kernel. I have compiled in all modules for reading vfat and ntfs. When i plug in my ipod the icon shows up and it recognizes it as an apple ipod. when i try to mount it i get this message

PHP Code:
Unable to mount the volume ' IPOD'.
mount_point cannot contain the following characters
newline,G_DIR_SEPARATOR (usually/)

here is my fstab entry
PHP Code:
/dev/sdb1        /mnt/ipod        vfat        defaults         1   0
does any know whats going on here

Check if it the iPod has sdb2 partition. The first partition might just contain the apple firmware and not the files.
