Cant mount dvd in slack

Im reasonable new to slack although ive been using linux (mainly suse) for about 2 years.

anyway When i try mounting a dvd with

Code:

mount /dev/hdc /media/dvd I get this error messsage

Code:

mount: special device dev/hdc does not exist

Im pretty sure that hdc is the right drive as when i run

Code:

dmesg | grep -i dvd

i get this come out

make sure you type the full path to it:

Code:

/dev/hdc

You can also look for devices by running '/sbin/blkid' (this gives you their filesystems as well)
