Ordinarily, I'd provide you with a link, but Alsa's website is being a pain in the butt today, so I can't.

That said, you may need to redownload and recompile the ALSA sources, if running alsaconf and choosing the right card (CA0106) doesn't work. As of the 1.0.9 tree, the SB Live! 24-bit is supported by ALSA.

Go to the ALSA website (http://alsa-project.org/) and click on Soundcards. Choose "Creative Labs", and click on Live! 24-bit (I'm doing this from memory, so it might be slightly different). There, you'll find instructions for how to compile ALSA from CVS specifically for that card. If the canned version of ALSA doesn't work, then you should download and install from CVS, and it *should* work. It worked for me, FWIW.

Did you try to login as root and:
Code:
you@box#: alsaconf
or just:

Code:
you@box$: alsamixer
Slackware 10.2 has support for SB Live! 24 Bit cards (the module is called CA0106) without need to reinstall ALSA or whatever....

Well let me say it: that's a bit silly...
Why would you run as root and mess up your system when you can run as user...
My first advice is to reinstall your system cause you could have already messed it up and
then to create an user just after the installation....
You'll see that even your soundacrd will be working....
