Cannot start slackware 10 installer on eMachines 366is with a samsung SCR-3232 cdrom

When I boot my emachines 366is with the slackware disc, it works perfectly, until I have to select the source. I don't seem to know what the problem is. My CD-ROM drive is detected before the installer begins, but then it says it can't find the CD-ROM...
I have 64 MB of RAM, and my CD-ROM drive is a Samsung SCR-3232 ATAPI.

First of all,
Why are you trying to install slackware 10?
The latest stable verison is slackware 11.0,
so first try get it and boot up and see if the
issue is still there.

I have this problem with every distro, and I'm using slack 10 because it was the only slackware cd I had. I figured out a solution, though. I copied all the file to my flash drive and installed from that. Now I just need to find out why LILO freezes the installer.

If you look at question 18 of the Slackware FAQS, it mentions something similar with other cd drives. It might be relevant to you.

As I said, I found my own solution
My only problem is that LILO refuses to install, even after letting it sit on "Installing the Linux Loader" for over 9 hours.

You need to specify LBA in bios. This can happen on older systems I guess. I had it happen to me once.
So enter your bios setup and make sure LBA is enabled. If that doesn't work, let us know.

Normally is doesn't take more than 9 seconds to install the Linux loader!

Thanks, I'll try that. My system is 9 years old. I'm in the middle of reinstalling slack, though, since I pressed a wrong button and lost my /etc/fstab

You can create a boot disk, booting from that and then download grub? There's a program "grubinstall" that is a nice lilo-like interface. Grub is a better loader anyway so you can just circumvent this LILO problem and go on with your life!

Sadly, whenever I try to create a boot disk, the floppy format fails.

Where are you trying to install LILO? The MBR? You might give each of the options a try.
Also, in the extras directory you'll find grub. You could boot from the install cd, mount your filesystem (/dev/hda?), chroot to that mount point, and install the grub package. Then you'll need to configure grub but I'm confident you'll be able to boot that way without these issues.

I can't do anything with this.I get everything installed, and I can't even make a bootdisk.
