cannot see png images in firefox
My wife's laptop cannot (anymore) display png impages. For example, the image at the default firefox/google page http://www.google.com/firefox?client...en-US:official does not display in firefox, but does display in opera. The image at www.google.com, which is a gif, displays fine. She believes that this started happening when I upgraded xfce to 4.6. I started with a fresh .config directory, and with a fresh .mozilla directory, to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Thanks, Brian |
any plugins installed in firefox ?
|
No, I started with an empty .mozilla directory to test.

Does it work with another browser?
|
Yes, as I mentioned, they display in opera.

I compared hers to mine, and they are identical except that I have a couple of helix plugins on mine.

I recently had a similar experience...

In her case the fix turned out to be to install a more recent video driver (hers is older Nvidia TNT2) and tweak the X configs accordingly. If you are a stumped as I was at the time, have a look at her drivers and X config. |
You can also try upgrading FF.

awesome, astrogeek, that was the solution. Indeed I was using the nv driver, and changing to the nvidia drivers (using the builds on slackbuilds.org) fixed it up.
I am curious why older FF and opera worked okay, but at least it works. Thanks to all who responded. Brian |

And Thanks for the THANKS! |
This happens to me aswell using slackware 12.2 and fireFox 3.0.4-3.0.9 . I have and ATI card and half of the images are filled in by black boxes on any given web page. As soon as install the non-free drivers it fixes the problem. And since I installed Slack 5 times in the last two weeks I can reproduce this problem every time.
