Cannot print selected text - box is grayed out.

I have an HP 5610v AIO that works very well in 12.2. However, I went to print some selected text from an app, and the Selected box is grayed out and does not function.

A Google search came up empty, and a search of the forum came up with a similar problem that was never answered. Now the HP Device Manager can no longer communicate with the printer - yet the printer still works, including sending something from the cli.

hp-setup could not set up this printer - it was done through cups. This printer works flawlessly in 12.0, and was setup using hp-setup.

Well, I solved the communication problem partly by changing permissions on /etc/bus/usb/002/004 to 0666. That solved the Device Manager problem as well as xsane finding the scanner. Now I have to figure out how to make it permanent.

Still haven't figured out why I can't print selected text.

The app in question from above was Thunderbird. I wanted to print some selected text from an email. I found a solution for this by hitting the forward button, then selecting the text, and the option button was now live. In my search, I found this same problem from five years ago in TB. The workaround was posted four years later.

This matter can be considered solved.
