I have been struggling with this problem for days now. KDE4 was running great for me with nvidia 180.xx driver which then stopped unexpectedly. Cannot pin down what changed to start the problem. Long story short, I have to revert back to the 177.xx driver which is horrible with KDE4. I recently upgraded to KDE4.1.96 (from slackware-current/testing) still no luck with the nvidia 180.xx driver.

From what I gather so far, plasma does not seem the load correctly. Apps from my saved session starts but no desktop, no task bar. I have started a thread on the nvidia forum with a few logs from my system. Any help fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help you here but I had problems with X locking up randomly with 180.22, went back to 177.xx and have not had one lock up.

I guess I just got lucky.
I have 180.22 running on:
12.2
Current KDE 3.10
Current KDE 4 (1.96) <--just installed less than a day ago
And everything works good.
I did not use the SlackBuild tho. I did the sh thing.
Did you run # nvidia-xconfig ?
