Cannot execute xf86config after new installation...

Cannot execute xf86config after new installation...

I'm a complete n00b, but I really want to learn about Linux, so I decided to try Slackware. Installed Slackware 10.0 on my PC (Thunderbird 1333, 512MB SDRAM, 40GB HD, ATI Radeon 9600). Now to my "problem":

When I come to the point in shilo's guide when I'm supposed to run xf86config I cannot run that command. It seems that I don't have any xf86config file. Why is that?

(I've got Gnome starting up without running xf86config, but I dunno why it's working. Guess it's has something to do with xorg, whatever that is?)...

Best regards
Fredrik

Hey, thanks for your answer/question.

Yes, I'm using xorg, and I've got the xorg.conf...

But why don't I have xf86config? What I know I didn't choose anything during the installation.

What's the difference between them? I've always used xf86 earlier so I'd like to use that now also. Is that possible? Exactly how do I do then?

the configuration files (XF86Config, xorg.conf) are very similare.

If u know how to do things with XF86Config you'll find your way with xorg.conf.

Xorg is newer that XF86, and it's supposed to be better.

New distr. come with Xorg
