Cannot boot after changing mouse settings

I tried to get a scroll mouse working and changed the settings in X11.conf. I tried to boot but it locks up after "Starting up X11 Session Manager" with a line: could not open /dev/mouse. Same with the boot disk.

Is there a way to mount hda1 so I can change the setting back? I tried the cd install disk but cannot mount any partions.

Thanks for any help, it would be appreciated...
