Can software compiled for old version work well

I downloaded a d4x's tgz ball compiled for Slackware 10.1, but now I use 10.2. Can it works well on 10.2?

The compiled binary is not the problem, that will run fine.

The problem is the dependencies and what libraries the binary expects to find. That is where problems might show up.
