Can I run new k3b on 9.1?

Is there any way to run the newest version of k3b on my 9.1 version of Slack with KDE 3.1.4? I really don't want to upgrade to 10.0 as I don't have the time.

Would I be able to compile from source? How do those of us who don't rush out and upgrade, run the latest versions of our favorite apps?

Shouldn't k3b work on 9.1 with scsi emulation? I didn't know the latest version stopped you from doing that...
