can't use kdm, after swaret upgrade

Hello,
I tried to upgrade my slackware 9.1 to 10 with swaret. The problem I got after rebooting was that I could write my username in kdm but not the password... this way I was prevented from loging in graphically.. I am not sure what caused the problem but that''s what I did:
at first I commented out the /sbin/ldconfig line in rc.M file... (is that important? it consumes to much time, I think..)
then I updated with swaret the glibc
and last I did the upgrade to kde.
and of course the reboot...

any ideas?
thanx, Alex.

If I were you I should not edit the /etc/rc.d/ files especially if you ask this type of question.

run ldconfig is for update links with shared libraries. shared libraries are libraries of fonctions used by your programs if you don't update links config, programs could not find shared libraries and won't run. I suggest remove comment in rc.M file.

You can run ldconfig as root after installing new libraries so you won't have to reboot to update ld links.

are you sure you were prevented from entering passwd? how do you know that -- kdm settings allow disable of the echo (astericks) in the passwd box - so it just may not be showing in the text box.....
