can't compile nvidia in slackware current

Hello everyone! I try to compile the kernel nvidia from here using all current slackware:
http://slackbuilds.org/repository/14...nvidia-kernel/

This is what I get;
Code:
root@compaq:/usr/src/k/nvidia-kernel# ./nvidia-kernel.SlackBuild
Creating directory NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-310.32
Verifying archive integrity... OK
Uncompressing NVIDIA Accelerated Graphics Driver for Linux-x86_64 310.32............................................................................................................................................................
If you are using a Linux 2.4 kernel, please make sure
you either have configured kernel sources matching your
kernel or the correct set of kernel headers installed
on your system.

If you are using a Linux 2.6 kernel, please make sure
you have configured kernel sources matching your kernel
installed on your system. If you specified a separate
output directory using either the "KBUILD_OUTPUT" or
the "O" KBUILD parameter, make sure to specify this
directory with the SYSOUT environment variable or with
the equivalent nvidia-installer command line option.

Depending on where and how the kernel sources (or the
kernel headers) were installed, you may need to specify
their location with the SYSSRC environment variable or
the equivalent nvidia-installer command line option.

*** Unable to determine the target kernel version. ***

make: *** [select_makefile] Error 1
Edit: forgot to say that I tried to specify KERNEL=3.8.4

This driver was released one month *before* the 3.8 kernel. Not sure that matters but It won't hurt to try a more recent NVIDIA driver.

You can get it to compile by adding a symlink but as 310.44 works just fine, you'd be better off going with that one instead.

edit: which I now see you are doing.

Technically, always remember that -Current is always evolving so using proprietary drivers might not be the best of ideas as you'll need to constantly test and retest each major update to see if something didn't get overwritten. Blacklisting the libmesa, libdrm, and x11-nouveau packages from updating might be a good idea for practice, however, it is recommended you only use the Nouveau driver for -Current unless you are completely certain the driver from Nvidia will be compatible with your kernel.
