Canīt mount USB-Drive (ntfs) after upgrade to 12.1

KDE gives me this message if I plug in and try to mount my ntfs-formatted usb-drive:
Quote:
TODO: have to rethink extra options
No matter if Iīm root or a user. Mounting my usb-pendrive which is fat-formatted works. What do I have to 'rethink'?

mount -t ntfs /dev/### <mountpoint> (it is worth trying, no guarantees it will work)

Manual mounting works (as root). But I use ntfs-3g instead of ntfs. I want to mount it in kde. I donīt know the name of this application: you plug the drive in and a popup asks you what you want to do. Meanwhile I found out that it must be a problem with permissions. Unchecking 'mount as user' allows me to mount as root in the mentioned way. But I dontīt like to work as root.

In Slackware 12 it worked properly (using the old ntfs driver). Users could open and browse the drive read only, but that was ok.

The warning is from kde, and essentially, it means that the kde team isn't sure what options are appropriate for ntfs drives being mounted read-only. It should work fine in xfce, but of course, that doesn't help you.

Removing /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-ntfs-3g-policy.fdi should return the old behavior, but yeah, the mount will be read-only.

Tanks Robby, but it didnīt work. Of course I restarted hald. Another not very informative message appeared. 'Unable to open device'. Googleing around for this policy I found this in the Wiki of Arch Linux:
Quote:
As of hal => 0.5.10 the above policy may not work. This is a workaround forcing hal to use the ntfs-3g driver instead of the standard ntfs driver. Please note that this method will use the ntfs-3g driver for all NTFS drives on your system! As root create a symbolic link from mount.ntfs to mount.ntfs-3g.

# ln -s /sbin/mount.ntfs-3g /sbin/mount.ntfs
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HAL

That helped. As a side-effect all permissions were set to 777 owned by root even if you mount as user. Thatīs not exactly what I wanted, but makes live a bit easier;-)

That's exactly what *should* have happened with the default installation.
