Unhappy can't set up dial-in server on slackware 9.1

Hello.I got an external US. Robotics USR3453B Courier 56K Business V.92 modem and I'm trying to setup a dial-in server on a HP Compaq d530.I'm using slackware 9.1 and tried both kernels 2.4.25 and 2.6.5 (ppp support in kernel).I manage to call the phone line and the modem answers, but I can't establish a connection.
I did every step on this page: w w w . linux-sxs.org/networking/pppservr.html, still, no luck.I'm using mgetty+sendfax

Does anyone have another tutorial on how to do it right? with getty or uugetty, because I can't figure out what's the problem.Do I need some initialization string/script for the modem? Do I have to use setserial to set the speed?
Thank you

I am very new to Slackware. I have a dial up connection but will be getting DSL within a month. Should I wait until then to set up my slackware box? I am going to use it as aserver.

I would love to know how to do this as well, so if anyone has an info please share it. Nice question NuLLiFiEd.

NuLLiFiEd maybe you can answer this, do I have to have a dial-up modem on the server? Let me clarify. Can I use something like dyndns.org, and set up a vpn server, and just dial right up (from a remote client, my laptop) to my broadband connection. Also by doing this I can save money by not buying a dial up modem, also I do not use up a phone line, and since I will be dial up to a broadband connection which is much faster than dial up.

Again good question NuLLiFiEd, and hopefully someone can answer my question, as well as NuLLiFiEd's.
