can't open nvidia-settings
Slackware 14 x64 KDE (kernel 3.10.12)
Nvidia driver 319.49 I can't seem to get nvidia-settings control panel to open. have tried to open it from menu, from icon & from terminal. Does anyone know how to fix this? |
Are there any error messages when you start nvidia-settings from the terminal? Dose it halt there and show no GUI window, or does it exit silently?
|
thank you guanx.
no error message from any attempts at launching it. the only sign of life is after clicking nvidia icon (either from desktop or panel or menu>settings>nvidia x server settings), i get the little bouncing icon that follows the mouse pointer around for about 30 seconds or so. |
Please launch it in a terminal this way:
Code:
nvidia-settings 2>errors.txt |
thanks Didier Spaier
the 1st time i entered nvidia-settings 2>errors.txt as root, the GUI appeared! (in a different window, of course) but after that, nothing. entering nvidia-settings 2>errors.txt as root# or as user$ does nothing; no GUI, no text, nothing. |
Make sure your hostname is listed in /etc/hosts. Should be something like: 127.0.0.1 myhostname
For me nvidia-settings would take literally 5 minutes or more to start, until I corrected my /etc/hosts file. |
thanks Beelzebud,
but that doesn't do it either. |
So, can you please take a look at the previous posts in this thread --
