Can't mount flash drives

Using Slackware 12.2
Slackware stopped mounting flash drives.
Hal doesn't give a pop up window when I insert a flash drive,
and I can't find a sda device in /dev

Thanks.

I didn't recompile, but I did an upgradepkg from the patches directory.
It installed new kernel and modules.

Well, I had such an issue after recompiling the kernel without SCSI-support.
Without SCSI-support USB doesn't work.

Thanks for help.
The flash drives are working now. I don't know what happened, except I
rebooted the computer. that must have have fixed something after I
upgraded the kernel.

Yes, this is it, while rebooting the new proper kernel-modules are loaded.
