can't login

hi, today i was trying to setup the wheel on my logitech mouse and did some config in /etc/X11/XF86Config, i did a wrong config cause when i startx the mouse didn't move, so i restarted the system with the keyboard, now when booting linux the system gets stuck without getting to the login part, the last line is

mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice

i disconected the mouse and the booting procces get stuck in the following

starting sysklogd deamons: /usr/sbin/syslogdhub.c: new usb device 00: 07.3-2, assigned address 3

i know i can reverse this if a find a way to get to login, i tried my bootdisk but the same happen, maybe i have to put some extra parameters but i don;t know which, i also tried connecting a ps/2 mouse but didn't work either

thanks in advanced for any help

Try booting in single user mode

Maybe if you posted the relevant section from
your XF86Config we could have a look at what
the problem might be?

Cheers,
Tink

ok, i bootet linux as single user and run XF86Config, the problem was not fixed here is the mouse config:

Section "InputDevice"

# identifier and driver

Identifier "mouse1"
Drive "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "Auto"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"

ok now here is what i get booting normally:

hub.c:new USB device 00:07.2-1 assigned address 2
usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x46d/0xcooe) is claimed by any active driver
hub.c: new USB device 00:7.3-2 assigned address 2
usb.c: USB device not accepting new adrress=2 (error=110)
usb-uhci.c: $Revision: 1.275 $ time 21:41:20 jun blah blah
usb-uhci.c: v1.275:USB Unversal Host Controller Interface driver
toouch: creating '/var/lock/subsys/hotplug': no such file or directory
Mounting remote (NFS) File System: /sbin/mount -a -t nfs
Mounting remote (SMB) File System: /sbin/mount -a -t smbfs
Starting sysklogd: /usr/sbin/syslogdhub.c:new USB device 00:07.3-2, assigned address 3

NOTE: if disconnect mouse, boot process freezes here

usb.c: registered new driver usbmouse
input0: Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse on USB1:2:0
USBmouse.c: v1.6:USB HID Boot Protocol mouse driver
usb.c: registered new driver hidden
usb.c: registered new driver hid
hid-core.c: v1.81 Andreas blah blah
hid-core.c: USBHID support drivers
mice:PS/2 mouse device common for all mice

NOTE: when mouse connected is freezes here and after 10 mins i get a login. (shorewall didn;t loaded and vmware loaded incorrectly) "i'm screwed !"

hope there is a solution for this

cheers

which part of the config did you change? the correct line for the mousewheel (for an intellimouse) is:
Option "Buttons" "5"
Option "ZAxis Mapping" "4 5"
is this of any help?

edit: I just noticed that there is no"r" on the end of "driver" in your last post! (Drive "mouse")
