Cable Internet in Slackware
Hi, I just downloaded Slackware yesterday and installed it, everything is working fine except i can't figure out how to get the internet to work
In Windows, i have all the software on CD, and i just install that to get it to work. Also, when i tried RedHat before, i just had to add the connection or something, and it worked right away. Slackware doesn't seem to have any such utility that i can find to do this. The only thing i can find is some netconfig utility which asks me for my domain, and other stuff that i have no idea about, and never entered before on RedHat or Windows. My cable modem is a motorola SURFboard SB4200, and is connected via USB. I CANNOT connect it via ethernet since i do not have a NIC. :( |
Look here
It doesn't quite say how to do it, but at least it should be clear that it works ;) If you can't get it to work spend 7$ on a NIC, and 4$ on a cable :} K, sorry, that was a bit curt. The module you'll have to try to load should be called CDCEther (watch the capitals, Linux is case sensitive). Become root, try modprobe CDCEther Cheers, Tink |
Sorry I had An Idea upto that last line .. But the same is probly true ..You need to Find a Driver Module for Your Modem (Orionaly I was going to say NIC) and Find out how to Configure and use it. So there is a Place to start. Sorry that I can't be of much help but I am about as new to linux as you.

I think it would be easyer/faster/better to spend to $12 on a NIC+Cable
