Buying Slackware

Hello,

since Slackware 11 will be released very soon, I thought about buying it. The price ($39.99) is ok, but I hope to avoid the shipping costs of $9 to Europe. I would love to pay Pat and the whole Slackware team, but do not feel like paying 1/4 of the price shipping costs.

Does anyone know if the Slackware CDs can be bought in Europe with lower shipping costs (maybe via Amazon with _no_ shipping costs?)

Some local places sell them but usually they have the older versions.
Linuxpackages.net also sells slackware CD's.

Well, I'd like to know it, too.
It would be stupid to pay for delivery from US.
There is an alternative, of course -download CDs and make a donation,
but original CD box is much more attractive

The Italian Slackware store seems to be redirecting to the store at slackware.org now. Pity as you were supporting Slackware directly and had cheaper shipping. I was hoping to buy Slackware 11 from there

Hi,

It would be nice to buy slackware in europe without having it sent from the US. Where i live i would propably pay twice the value of the package just in costums fee !!

Regards

I found a German online book store some time ago that offered the official Slackware packages, but it took more than three months after the actual release's announcement until they delivered the CD package. That's not what I consider a reasonable speed.
If I had a credit card I would donate directly to slackware.com.

I've downloaded Pat's stuff for a few years for free. I'm buying Slackware 11 from the Slackware store and coughing up the $40 US.
You'll be able to buy Slackware 11 for a much reduced price from a number of Linux CD sites.
I've used Discount Linux CDs for a few years, they are reliable. You should be able to buy Slackware 11 for 5-10 bucks.

I strongly suspect that if you buy Slackware for $5-$10, you are just getting user burned CD's, and just paying the media fees. None of that money is going back to Pat to support Slackware development.

Nothing wrong with that, but if you want to support Slackware, you should purchase an official boxed set or send a donation. I try to buy a boxed set every couple of years as my way to help support the distro in a small way.

There are shops in Germany who sell the boxed version, for example this one.

I know that Pat will not receive any money from CDs burned by the Linux CD company.
I proposed the solution to the fellow in Europe who needed an inexpensive alternative to buying the boxed set.
I'm buying the official boxed version of 11 when it is released. I agree that Pat should get a donation and I will be buying boxed sets from now on as I want to support Pat's business.

You can always preorder Slack 11 - I have, I've got the 11 DVD and the Slack Essentials book on order. Lok for the Slackpack - it's cheaper than buying both seperately.

Just download and burn it yourself, and send Pat a donation. It'll save you the shipping fees and save him the cost of the CDROMs. You both win.

I hope I too can find some shop here in Ireland or in EU which would sell the 11.0 CD's with Slackbook. It doesn't appeal too good to pay nice amount of shipping costs + VAT. The cost doubles quite easily. I don't even know how the VAT system works in here...

I want to support Pat (so I do not want a shop that just sells burned CDs) and I really want a "real" Slackware CD set. So buying the set is my perfered way of "donating" to Slackware (if 5 years ago someone told me, that I would ever consider to *pay* for software I would probably habe dropped dead laughing ;-)).

Maybe I just add a T-Shirt and a baseball cap and then $9 shipping is not that much percent wise ;-p

Not sure on how they deal with taxes in Austria but in Finland and Ireland they apply 22% VAT above other expenses so be prepared for that too.
