building 2.6.22-rc3, Fatal:raid_setup:

hi,
I was having problems with the huge26.s kernel on my laptop wherein it would refuse to boot after i installed the kernel-modules package (I can boot and log in if i Dont install the kernel modules package). I had a problem with the hda-codec ALC882 (soundcard) and read in the changelog that this issue was rectified in the 2.6.22-rc2. So this is what i did:

1. Downloaded 2.6.21 and patched it up to 2.6.22-rc3
2. cp /boot/config ~/linux-2.6.21/.config
3. make oldconfig
4. make menuconfig (did'nt make any changes, just gave it a once over)
5. make (compilation proceeded and finished without a hitch)
6. make modules_install (finished successfully)
7. make install

ok so the problem is with the 7th step. when i run 'make install' i get:
Code:
#make install
sh /home/vark/linux-2.6.21/arch/i386/boot/install.sh 2.6.22-rc3 arch/i386/boot/bzImage System.map "/boot"
Fatal:raid_setup: stat("/dev/hda")
make[1]: ***[install] Error 1
make: *** [install] Error 2
the /dev/hda thing is a problem with my lilo. Since i have a sata disk on my laptop, Slackware would'nt boot unless i changed the hda to sda in my lilo.conf and my fstab. here's lilo.conf
Code:
boot = /dev/hda

other=/dev/hda1
label=Windows
table=/dev/hda

image = /boot/vmlinuz
 root = /dev/hda3
 label = Linux
 read-only
slackware would boot with huge26.s Only when i changed root=/dev/hda3 to root=/dev/sda3. now i keep getting that Fatal:raid_setup: stat("/dev/hda") error everytime i make any small change in lilo.conf and try running /sbin/lilo. (All this After compiling the new kernel)

Why cant i install my new kernel?? could anyone please tell me what im doing wrong here.

im not sure there is a need to 'make install' a kernel...
u just copy it in /boot and change lilo.conf to associate with the new kernel..

whenever i compile my own kernel (even though never a patched on so far - always i start clean, migrating only the .config file to avoid having to reconfigure every single thing)
i use as a reference the slakcbook page:
http://www.slackbook.org/html/book.h...KERNEL-COMPILE

follow its steps after you patch your kernel (you have done that already)
and you should be fine

ok one problem gone, another one crops up in it's place.. i compiled the kernel successfully, modified lilo and installed it (after booting from the slackware cd, mounting my linux partition and chrooting to it).. now the kernel boots up and when it comes to loading modules...
Code:
agpgart: Detected an intel 945M chipset
agpgart: Detected 7932K stolen memory
agpgart: AGP aperture is 256M @ 0xc0000000
CS: IO port probe 0xc00-0xcff: clean
CS: IO port probe 0x820-0x8ff: clean
CS: IO port probe 0x800-0x80f: _
and it stops there. I faced a similar problem with the 2.6.17.13(huge26.s) kernel and that was the whole point of me compiling a fully patched 2.6.22-rc3 kernel so that maybe it had support for some unknown piece of hardware in my laptop that's giving me the headache. been trying to get slackware workin on it for 4 days now .. the default slack 11 install works fine and boots up and i can get into kde, trouble starts when i installpkg kernel-modules2.6.17.11. I would get this error with huge26.s
Code:
hda_codec: Unknown model for ALC882,trying autoprobe from BIOS
firmware_class: exports duplicate symbol release_firmware (owned by kernel)
CS: IO port probe 0xc00-0xcff:excludes 0xcf8-0xcff
CS:IO port probe  0x820-0x8ff:clean
CS:IO port probe  0x800-0x80f:_
that is related to my soundcard and aftr reading the changelog for 2.6.22-rc2, i discovered this problem had been fixed. now i compile the new kernel and then i get this agpart problem.. seems like slackware just does'nt want to run on my new laptop i could comment out the agpgart module in rc.modules but then the touchpad wont work.. installed the synaptics driver package but for some odd reason Wont recognise my touchpad as being from synaptics(it Is a synaptics one, checked in windows).

someone Please tell me what im doing wrong here..Love slackware and i just do Not want to migrate to gentoo or anything else.
