Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5753M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Card

Hi

I mostly connect to the Net through my broadband connection using WiFi but I thought I would try using ethernet. My ethernet card is the Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5753M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Card which is supposed to be supported by the tg3 driver available in the Slack 12 kernels. The module is being loaded but for some reason, the card is not being recognised. The ifconfig only displays eth1 (which is my wireless chip) and the loopback device "lo". Has anyone successfully connected via ethernet using the Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5753M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Card?

Cheers

What is the output of 'lspci' ?

Ok problem solved. I ran ifconfig -a which "displays all available interfaces even if down" (man pages) and sure enough eth0 appeared as my ethernet card.

Incidentally, anyone from the UK who is a Virgin Media (formerly NTL) broadband subscriber can connect via their ethernet card by running netconfig and use the following Slack defaults.

Hostname = darkstar
domain name = example.net
Network Connection (IP Address Setup) = DHCP
DHCP Hostname =

(The DHCP Hostname should just be left blank)

Regards
