Booting up computer with a select screen...

When I used Mandrake there was a screen that showed up whenever booting up to show whether to pick Mandrake or Windows.
I have heard there is something like that for Slackware, I was wondering if anyone had instructions on how to use it.

Thank you,
Bad_CRC

Slack is based on the boot loader lilo and it will support multiple boot configs. It can present a menu if want. Or you can install grub that you are probably most familiar with from your prior distro. At least I think Mandrake is based on grub. I just posted a multiple lilo boot config today in the thread below.

The following search result will give a list of threads related to grub and Slack. The thread listed as "Many Slackware problems" at the end is a post by docGonzo2000 with some directions on installing grub.

LILO.

You can edit your /etc/lilo.conf file so you can choose which OS to boot. You'll have to have install LILO to your MBR. After making any changes be sure to type lilo as root at a command line before rebooting so your changes will take effect.

You'll need to set up your partitions correctly as well so you can get them correct in lilo.conf. Let's say your partitions are like this:

/dev/hda1 = windows
/dev/hda2 = linux swap
/dev/hda3 = linux

I'm only going to assume that you've got 2 linux partitions. This is meant for example only. I'm not in front of my Linux box right now or I'd post my /etc/lilo.conf for you. I don't dual boot, but you could at least compare it to a working one. Also, I know there's many threads here at LQ with lilo.conf files posted by dual booters. Here's a search for lilo.conf here at LQ. I hope this helps.

Thank you a lot!!!

Anyways there is one more question you guys might be able to answer...

On Windows my max resolution is 1280x1024 and 32bit. Am I able to get that high with Slackware?
