Booting into Linux Problem

Hi all,

I have a problem with booting into linux.

When I reboot my computer and choose Linux as my OS (I have Windows or Linux), 'sometimes' it will boot to blank/black screen.... but when I rest my com, it will boot into the linux loader.

Can someone please help me with this. I really dont like to rest my com all the time coz it goes blank when I try to boot my linux.

Thanks

Is your 'com' a laptop or a desktop ?

I would think there is something, like a hidden partition (which may contains manufacturer utilities) that makes your first boot fail.

Are you using lilo ? With vga=normal ?

Im using desktop

Im using LILO.

I dont know why,but sometimes when i boot it, it wont load, and when i reset it, it boots.

Could it be my drivers? Graphics?

Thanks

When you are in linux and reboot into linux, does it work ? at 100% ?

Nope, it doesnt... its not 100%

Somtimes it boots into it, and sometimes it doesnt...

How do I fix this problem?

Thanks

What do you mean when you say it works when you "rest your com"?? Maybe I'm not up to date with current slang but I no idea what you are talking about. -- J.W.

Ok,

When I boot my system up, I have a boot loader either boots Win or Linux. So for me to go into Linux, I choose it from the boot loader, once I hit enter, it is supposed to load into this loading to get into x windows, but becoz 'sometimes' when it loads, it shows nothing (blank). However, when I reset my system again, it will load and the text loading shows, then I could get into the X Windows.

I hope u understand wat I tryin to say.

Cheers,
Spyiish

Yes, that's clearer, but please keep in mind that "rest" and "reset" have totally different meanings, and considering that you twice said "rest my com" it was not obvious that you were trying to say "reset my computer". (Certainly if I said that I wanted to "buy a new cat" twice in a single post, it would be pretty unlikely that anyone would realize that what I meant was that I wanted to "buy a new cart")

Anyway, so the problem is that you are dual booting Windows and Slackware, but when you select Slackware, you get inconsistent results: sometimes the system boots successfully into X, other times the screen just goes blank, and you have to reboot. Is that accurate? -- J.W.

Yes thats wat I meant....

LOLz.... my rest and reset is a typo. My keyboard is a bit stupid. Need to get a new keyboard. Somteims it doesnt type well.... :(

But anyways, how do I go about fixing this problem?
Thanks.
