booting into kde drops me into black screen

my kde is doing weird things. when i first boot up, it'll go through its list of loading things, then after its done restoring its session and it says kde is loaded or whatever, it drops me in a black screen with a blinking cursor. i realized that by pressing alt f7 it would take me back to x. also, when i try to run gdmflexiserver --xnest, which i often use so my mom can log into her account without logging out of mine, it says
Cannot start new display
There were errors trying to start the X server

now just earlier today this wasn't happening, and i can't think of anything that would have caused this. when i log into my mom's account, which uses gnome, i don't get any of these problems. i'm really confused as to what is happening and why. any help would be really appreciated cuz i don't even know where to start

now instead of bringing me to a blank screen, i just get 3 popup msgs all saying "Cannot start new display
There were errors trying to start the X server"
even though i'm in kde and everything *seems* to be working fine except gdmflexiserver

*sigh*
only greeting any worse than this would be
"... has performed an illegal operation
this program will now close"

also, i dunno if this has antyhign to do with it, but when i got to KDE Control center and then go to system administration and then kernel, this page comes up
Code:
Sorry

The kernel configuration could not be read due to the following error:

/usr/src/linux/drivers/usb/gadget/Config.in, line 52:

     else if [ "$CONFIG_USB_PXA2XX" = "y" -o "$CONFIG_USB_PXA2XX" = "m" ]; then
           ^ parse error

Either your kernel sources contain invalid configuration rules or you just found a bug in the KDE Kernel Configurator.

damn that was easily fixed.
all i had to do was set KDE so that it started up with an empty session instead of trying to restore a previous one.
i feel dumb now
hopefully someone out there will benefit from this thread though
