Bootable Slack 8.1 ISO
The ISO I downloaded was not bootable, i would prefer this. Do you know of one off hand?
Also, its kinda wierd how they changed making bootdisks for slack 8.1 while IN windows. Its odd...... Thanks all. |
I just installed 8.1 myself the other day. On the comp I wanted it installed on, the iso wouldnt boot, so I had to make the boot disk and 5 root disks to get it going. The same iso booted perfectly on the other computers I have. The previous editions of slack all booted fine on the same comp for me, I'm not sure why 8.1 didn't. Hope ya find a way around it to save the little bit of time in making the boot disks.. it took me forever to get them made. rawwrite was having issues.

After downloading 2 diff iso's on the net and trying i gave up.
had to use the boot disks like you....oh well .. im up and running now!! YAY! |
Cool :) So far I've very pleased with it, well worth making the boot disks

The install image that I downloaded was bootable. The process has changed though from prior versions because of the size. I had to reauthor the CD to get it to fit on my CDR's, but the process is explained for mkisofs in the README.TXT file inside the /isolinux directory. If you had to use 80 minute CDR's for the image then your CD drive may not like the higher capacity CDR's during boot time.
Also, Windows is not required to make the bootdisks or a kernel disk. I believe the directions provided are for MS, using RAWRITE I believe. But, I just used the dd command to write the images to the diskettes when I was working with the slackware-current tree. They worked fine. |
my drive was fine in boot w/ 80min cdr
downloaded the iso, burnt it with fantom cd and all was good |
I was re-reading the changelog because I know that Patrick finally left the el Torito images behind and knew this was something new and hence: wiggy. Here's a snippet from the changelog back a couple weeks:
isolinux/README.TXT: Suggest -boot-load-size 32 when mastering the CD with mkisofs to ensure the entire isolinux.bin is loaded, otherwise sometimes it works... sometimes it doesn't. Thanks to Janusz Wolanski for noticing that this needed to be bigger. Cheers, Finegan |
