Bluetooth Problem
 

i have just got a bluetooth usb adapter and i can seem to get it working on slackware 10.2 i have all the kbluetoothd packages installed and run fine but when i plug in my adapter i get an error message

"Could not enable security features for kbemusedsrv.The service will not be started."

then kbluetoothd freezes until i take out the adapter.

has anyone come across this before and know how to fix this problem

hi thanks for your reply, i got confused from the start, i have bluez utils and blues libs, openobex and kbluetoothd installed it runs fine until i plug in the adapter then it freezes and i get the eror msg i mentioned before, i'm using the kernel 2.4.31 i'm wondering if its that or did u get it working with this kernel?

The Bluetooth code is dramatically different and improved in the 2.6 series. Bluetooth works in 2.4 but if you can use 2.6 that is my first recommendation.

Also check dmesg for any errors, it might be dumping something useful there you haven't seen.

yeah, the tutorial is written for 2.6 kernel. I was unable to get it working with 2.4. :( I'm not saying it's impossible though. Check 'dmesg' as cs-cam duggested, or try out a kernel upgrade.

Hiya drkstr,

I'd like to get Bluetooth working on my notebook.

Looking at your howto, it mentions I need kdebluetooth. Am I right in thinking this is a KDE package - as I don't use KDE but XFCE instead.

Also, is there a problem with me using the pre-built packages for bluez-libs and bluez-utils?

Hello,

kde-bluetooth is not required, I added that to the HOWTO because someone asked about it. If you can find prebuilt packages for Slackware, give it a shot. However, when I was setting this up myself I had more trouble with the pre-built packages because the people that built them had set up their system differently, or were using non-standard Slackware libraries. This is why my guide focuses on the "do it yourself" method.
