Unhappy Blender in Slackware 12.1 Intel card i915 driver

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Has anyone used Blender in Slackware 12.1 with an Intel video card?

I have tried with the i865G and the GMA950. Segmentation fault.

The debugger says it's a problem with a primitive in a function managed by the i915 X driver. I do think it's a problem with the X driver. It worked in Slackware 12.0.

The interesting lines from gdb

Code:
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

I will try using the old driver, but I would not consider that a solution. Has anyone made Blender run in Slackware 12.1 out there?

Thanks in advance.

Try reinstalling the i810 package. It seems the default install for SW12.1 The basic install overwrites this with the intel package, and causes many issues with the i810 family of chipsets (X seems not to work with the intel driver).
Code:
upgradepkg --reinstall xf86-video-i810-1.7.4-i486-1.tgz

Cool Actually you need the newer Mesa 7.3

Download mesa-7.0.3-i486-1.tgz from mirrors.usc.edu.

command:

wget mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/distributions/slackware/slackware-current/slackware/x/mesa-7.0.3-i486-1.tgz ;

sudo removepkg mesa-7.0.2-i486-1.tgz ;
sudo installpkg mesa-7.0.3-i486-1.tgz ;

enjoy blender

I was having the same problem on a new install of Slackware 12.1 on Toshiba laptop with i915 driver, and SlackBuild of Blender 2.48a.

When it did not work I added it to my list of things to resolve - now it is off my list!

For anyone else with this problem, I did not reload drivers or tweak anything else - the fix consisted of replacing mesa-7.0.2 with mesa-7.0.3 package.

Thanks again!

[EDIT] I meant to ask, do you have any additional comments/info/links on this particular problem - specifically, is it a mesa problem or an i915 problem?

I just sent my Blender 2.48a package to another machine running a recent basic Slackware 12.1 install but with Nvidia TNT2 graphics - it works fine without the mesa-7.0.3 package so based on that it would look like i915 related problem.[/EDIT]

I suspect the Xorg developers use a newer version of Mesa and Slack hadn't updated to it. Nvidia builds their own OpenGL libraries based on Mesa I believe. Linux can be a version nightmare but I'd rather deal with that than have the alternative.....
