I posted a new thread in the "Linux" section on this problem because I've tried both .deb and tar.gz installs after the update of the working 0.0.1 was forced and failed with the exact same issue. It launches, sort of, but only creates a blank window. I tried this on Slackware, Manjaro and the previous LTS version of Ubuntu with the same results.
After searching around the problem exists on many distros with libc++ being the culprit with a common hangup on Clang. I didn't continue in Slackware since I don't relish the dozen or so dependencies for libc++ for a comm app. So for now I'm just using the browser version and grumbling about blobs that are incomplete from assuming everyone has auto-dependency resolution, when this is one good reason not to. It's way too much going on behind my back and/or way too much to have to do manually when there exists lesser of evils.
