Blank desktop after kde upgrade
After upgrading from kde 3.2.0 to 3.3.1 (via packages from linuxpackages.org), a peculiar thing happened. When i log in, my desktop is completely blank, no icons, no wallpaper, it doesnt even appear to be clickable (no right click, and left click-drag doesnt yield the selection box).
I haven't got a clue on where to start with this one. Any suggestions? -kM |
Just a suggestion, but for Slackware I'd use the KDE 3.3.1 packages provided by Slackware.

I had to install the libidn package before my upgrade to 3.3.1 would work correctly. Check out the various logs to see if this might be your issue, too.

The libidn dependancy is mentioned in the changelog. This is one reason they are there. Also, did you upgrade Qt at the same time? They need to be done together.
I'm also with JunctaJuvant, why use linuxpackages when kde 3.3.1 is in current? |
Thanks for the help. I installed libidn and saw no difference. I'll check logs as soon as I can.

Damn, I've got exactly the same problem in zipslack... :/

I just had a KDE meltdown thanks to swaret, :( and had to download and install KDE again. On the KDE website it says you must delete your current KDE installation, Download the required packages and install them in this order.
1. Arts 2. Kdelibs 3. Kdebase The other packages are not required according to the website, but worth installing. I did not delete my existing installation and took a chance and it worked fine after installing all the packages. To install I used the Slackware ones available on the KDE download section then used Pkgtool to install them, It worked great. I then installed the other packages with no problems. http://download.kde.org/binarydownlo...lackware/10.0/ |
