Bios config: "ahci" or "standard ide" for a sata drive ?

I am about to install Slackware 11 and I am wondering what settings to use in the bios for my sata drive. I have three options: "standard ide", "raid" and "ahci". There is only one harddisk so I guessed raid is not the way to go, but I am at a loss about what to choose between "ahci" and "standard ide". In the same category, the bios offers me two choices for the harddisk options "32-bit data transfers": "enabled" or "disabled". Guessing, I would want it to be enabled, but the person who sold me the computer changed the default enabled to disabled for some mysterious reason. Which is right ? Motherboard: ASUS P5W with intel ICH7 chipset. Harddisk: maxtor 300 gb. Thanks in advance, -Danodare |
SATA disks and Slackware 11.0
I was told that RAID-0 can be installed on one SATA disk. There is no redundancy but there is striping of data and resulting higher data rate. I am also installing Slackware 11.0 on a new motherboard and my discs are ordered and being shipped. I have installed Slackware 11.0 on both a AMD K7 and an AMD Athlon machines using linux-2.6.10 previously compiled on Slackware 10.2 (both can be booted to older Slackware during transition. Have been doing this since (slackware upgrade) about 1995, Slack3.0. When my discs are received I intend to begin with only one installed and experiment with raid0. I will post results when I have done so. Slack 11.0 installed flawlessly on three machines. Good luck.
davidVK My sincere apologies! I misunderstood what I was being told, RAID-0 is an ARRAY of disks just like the other types. However I did find out that 'ahci' is the setting for SATA discs. davidVK |
