Jobs that are started by automated processes typically aren't associated with a tty (or pty). The tty/pty is the terminal device a user logs in on to run commands.

The message is telling you a script tried to do something requiring a tty and couldn't find it. This is common when someone simply copies a shell script they tested at command line to someplace like a cron job or /etc/init.d and had tests in it (or something it called) that required the tty such as setting the TERM variable for terminal.

Usually other than the ugly message(s) it isn't indicative of an actual problem running the rest of the script. You'd need to specify exactly where in the boot process you're seeing this to narrow it down.
