big preboot delay on 64 current

I installed slackware64 --current on my laptop, everything works fine, but on the very first screen where it says "Loading Linux..." it takes about a minute or longer with a couple of lines of dots following it, before I see the "Check bios successfull", and then the system boots normally. This usually does not need more that 1 or 2 seconds.

Any help?

you need to edit lilo.conf and add the compact option... remember to run lilo before you reboot afterwards.

this is the first couple of lines from lilo.conf

# LILO configuration file
# generated by 'liloconfig'
#
# Start LILO global section
boot = /dev/sda
#compact # faster, but won't work on all systems. (Just remove the # from the compact entry)

Hi,

'man' is your friend!

Quote:
excerpt from 'man lilo.conf';

compact
Tries to merge read requests for adjacent sectors into a single read request. This drastically reduces load time and keeps the map smaller. Using `compact' is especially recommended when booting from a floppy disk.
