Beryl on Slackware

Hi , i have been trying to install beryl on slackware, came across a few missing dependencies at first and i have pretty much downloaded and installed all the dependencies needed. The dependency errors went away and now im stuck with this and i am totally clueless as to what it means.Im running on slackware 10.2 with the 2.4 kernel. Im soo close to getting it to work , any help would be greatly appreciated.

WAG - this is a binary package you downloaded from somewhere that wants >= glib2-2.8 and you still have the glib2-2.6 that came with Slack 10.2? I don't know what you mean by 'pretty much downloaded and installed all the dependencies needed' - downloaded and *compiled* and installed, or just threw more binary packages at it?

Maybe either upgrade glib2 or compile the whole thing (if beryl can use an older glib) or upgrade the whole system.

Of course, this all may be completely wrong.

Either way, more info on what exactly you did would be helpful. Did you compile from source or use binaries ... which binaries ... etc.

Thanx for the reply guys, i downloaded the binaries and followed the tutorial from this website http://web.tiscali.it/meskalamdug/aiglx.html . What i meant by downloaded the dependencies is that i had a few errors about missing dependencies like pango and expat so i downloaded the packages from the slackware website and installed them with pkgtool , the dependency errors are gone but now im stuck with these errors. Upgrading GTK doesnt seem to work either.

I see, so they are binaries. And I'm not exactly sure how these packages were built. It may work better if you compile them yourself.

Try http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...=539101&page=2

Thanx for the link, i grabbed the beryl files from this link http://iservice.ws/slackpkg/ installed em and beryl manager launches now, i can now see the beryl manager in my taskbar. However when i try to select beryl as the windows manager, it just falls back to KDE and i get prompted that beryl caught a deadly signal 11 .Kde is still running and my windows are still opened but my kde bar, taskbar and even the opened windows bar(to drag,max or close the window) just went missing. Any ideas ?

I think those packages are for -current. Try compiling it from source.

Thanx for stickin with me Tex, i installed pygobject and no longer get the error for beryl-settings-simple , however its now having the same error as beryl-settings. I have a feeling that this is the last step i have to fix before i manage to get beryl working, both of em seem to be having problems with the same file.Is it python or GTK ? Should i remove them both and reinstall ? Here are the outputs, thanx again for takin the time to help me out.

Beryl-settings Output:

File "/usr/bin/beryl-settings", line 22, in <module>
import berylsettings
ImportError: /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0: undefined symbol: deflate

Beryl-settings-simple Output:

File "/usr/bin/beryl-settings-simple", line 20, in <module>
import gobject,berylsettings,os,gettext,pygtk,gtk
ImportError: /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0: undefined symbol: deflate

It has something to do with libpng12. It may be some incompatibility with your version of lib png ? Try installing a newer version of libpng.
