Berkeley DB question: which version used for Slack?

I'm attempting to build Postfix from scratch, but the compilation fails because I don't have the Berkeley DB libraries installed. Fair enough, but when I went over to the L diskset, it turns out that there are three different versions: db3, db31, and db4.

Browsing the Postfix docs, it says that some system libraries may be built with the Berkeley DB, and that it's generally not a good idea to mix versions. So, here's the question, in two parts: one, what system libraries would use the Berkeley DB libraries, and two, which version should I use to build Postfix so that it doesn't core dump?

I installed the newest BDB from a tarball with no problems for Postfix 2x. From what I remember it was a simple configure/make/make install.
