beloved XV doesn't work right on Slackware 14

I have loved XV for lo these many years, but on my Slackware 14 installation, when reducing an image to half it's size, the width is reduced, but not the height. Anbody else have this problem?

For an application that was abandoned (tens of) years ago by its author, it is amazing that it still starts and that this dusty and antic application is still included in a modern Linux distribution such as Slackware 14. XV's place is in the museum (/pasture?), and no, I do not want to offend anyone, sorry!

BTW, what offer the XV in addition (and compared) to the much more powerful and much more modern GIMP?

XV is working for me on Slackware 14-64bit. I've used it on png, jpg, and tiff images.

xv has been working for me very well under 64-bit 14.0 as well.

Darth: just off the top of my head: speed when paging through several images, color editor, and the -maxpect option.

It can be argued that gimp offers features roughly equivalent to the color editor, but imo xv's color editor is more powerful.

Thanks to all who responded. I should have mentioned that I am using 32 bit Slackware 14. Since posting this, I have tried gimp. It works, but not as convenient as xv for what I usually do. I'll give 64 bit Slackware 14 a try.
