.bashrc and console colours

i have no .bashrc file, but i still get directory colours appearing in the vt. any of the emulated vts' in x the directories are all grey, eg konsole.

so my question is how do i get directory colours in konsole etc? do i need to create a .bashrc, and what do i put into it?

Have a look at
grep dircolors /etc/profile ...
That should guide you in your quest ;}

try "/etc/DIR_COLORS" aswell

If you want, you could copy /etc/profile to ~/.bashrc and modify the colors (and anything else) for your user. That way you can have different profile schemes for each user.
