I'm having problems with the Slackware 12.0 DVD iso.
A few days ago I downloaded the DVD iso, burned it, and booted the DVD. All went fine until the actual software installation: most of the programs, starting from the "a" folder, would not install properly, generating error messages. After skipping hundreds of these messages, I decided to stop the whole thing.
I burned the iso onto two different DVDs, both high quality, one at 4x speed, and the other at 1x speed, just to make sure that the burning was being done nicely.
Before installing, I checked the DVDs and found that many of the zippped/tarred files were unreadable. An md5sum check on both DVDs revealed more than 2,000 file errors/mismatches.
Any help? I'm dying to try Slack 12 but this whole thing is putting me off.
yeh man.ive had problems installing slack 12 too.I got my iso file via ktorrent.I dont even get as far as you did.Kernel loads and then nothing. Its a real head-scratcher.Ive installed the 12RC and have no problems.
I downloaded the DVD ISO myself and the MD5Sum is different from what is shown on LQ. I went so far as to go to the Portugal site to see if they show the sum I see on my download and it's the same as the LQ one, so something is either bad with the ISO in the first place or downloading it is causing some sort of problems, though I haven't had a chance to burn it and install it yet.

This example will get the first install cd, .asc & .md5 files. I would not wildcard a download. The reason being you will get a better visual feedback doing individual downloads. Confirm errors or not. You will need the install cd1, install cd2 & maybe install cd3.
If you are using M$Windows then get the Wget for M$Windows which is also listed in the wiki.
You can go to the download site here. To get an idea of what you need to download. This is a good site!

I didn't use a torrent to download the DVD ISO, I used a mirror here on LQ, specifically the Portugal mirror. Running md5sum on it afterwards shows a different sum than LQ shows, and others seem to be having similiar problems which is why I posted. Like I said, I haven't had a chance to check it out to see if it runs or not yet.
If the problem was the site then a lot more people would be having a problem. Yes, ftp would be the easiest and safest to use for a download.
Bittorrent is great to share the bandwidth but not faster.

You could be having a local net problem.
After compariing sizes with the FTP sites, it seems there is a problem with the ISO. The one I downloaded was just over 2 Gigs while the ones on the FTP site show 3.6 Gigs. So either the mirror I downloaded from has a differenct version or I didn't get it all. Attempting to download again with WGET from FTP, so we'll see how it goes.

Hi,
Post the sites links you are downloading from. The one links I posted are known good. What bittorrent client are you using?
As I said the wget/ftp will get you the files. Be sure to check the signature or checksum.
Bittorrent's pulling at a quick 180KB/s which is sadly my office's bandwidth limit. That will give me the full DVD in six hours, which is not very long.

I'm sorry, but are you even reading my posts? I've stated twice now I was NOT using bittorrent and I was downloading from the mirrors here on LQ, specifically the Portugal mirror.
