mmm, I think the OP want something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yZDrJN8TDo but I don't know if the kde in 13.37 has this feature

I have no idea what the OP is asking about but... Any of the xscreensavers can be drawn on the background by using the "-root" option.

"/usr/libexec/xscreensaver/flow -root" in a terminal will work. Hopefully you can find a "screensaver" that you like.

I refuse to watch a video, so I can't comment on that.

I tried the animated wallpapers a while ago, but got bored with it pretty quickly.

I used a small program called Shantz XWinWrap, to display the animated wallpapers, which are simply small videos. You can get animated wallpapers from dreamscene.org. I don't really know if there's a DE that supports displaying videos as desktop backgrounds.

It doesn't work here on KDE 4.8.3
