is there anyway to configure X or Gnome to start certain programs when it starts, say for instance Mozilla on desktop1, a Gnome Terminal on desktop2, etc.?
You can make X start programs by adding them in your .xinitrc in your home directory.
Just make sure each program is started in the background by adding a & after the name, and that your wm or gnome is the last item in the list.
