put 1 in /etc/profile and that alias will apply when you login as any user.

2 dunno as i don't use kde. i do remember that kopete will start up in kde if you set it that way in the system tray, it does aim, icq, ....

~/.kde/Autostart

Anything in that folder will be executed on login.

ok ...i figured number two....it seems that not only does it have to be in
/root/.kde/Autostart, but it has to be a .Desktop file....cool i have gaim autostarting .... just a right-click, create new..., Link to application....and presto!...POOF!...abracadabra!!!...SHAZZAMM!!!!.or whatever magical word you can think of...

problem...i have a dual monitor setup using xinerama(twin view pissed me off...lol)...now when kde starts, gaim starts one in each monitor....in other words gaim fires off twice...hrmmm?.....anybody know how to start it in just one desktop...or how to stop it from firing off in one of the monitors?

thanks for all the help

Hmm... You shouldn't be running as root . Make a new user.

Yep, forgot to mention that.

Are you sure it's two seperate running programs? I don't use xinerama or gaim, but right click on the window title bar and look in the menus, there might be something in there.

yes...i know about not running as root....but hey ....it works...

yes it is firing off individual gaims...it fires up first in my primary display but then in my second.....i get dropped from all of my connections but then get picked up by the secondary monitor...

anyway....to stay on topic....how can i stop this from happening...
