audio cds in text-interface

I've heard many different methods on how to play audio CDs in the text interface. The most common command is "cdplay." Yet, none of these commands actually work in my text shell. Anyone know the actual command(s)?

Also, how do I enable "standby mode" in slackware lin kernal 2.4.29? (do I need that linux APM?)

I am not at my box right now, and I know that this will play mp3's, but will the mpeg123 program work?

I was mistaken, the program is called mpg123, and I think it was included in my install. From a console try typing mp and then hit tab a couple of times and see what comes up. Keep in mind, this may not even work at all.

Here are a few audio programs you'll want to get to know.

Code:
workbone
will let you play audio CDs from a command prompt.
Code:
mpg321
is the free alternative to mpg123.
Code:
ogg123
plays ogg and flac files.
Code:
oggenc
encodes wav to ogg
Code:
flac
encodes to the flac lossless audio codex.
