Audigy 2zs: Line In & Capture Not Shown At All

Hello All,

I have an Audigy 2ZS sound card with the 'external hd'.

I'm not able to record from the line-in which is the line in connector physically on the card itself (there is a line-in2 but that is for the line in connector on the external drive bay "hd" '.

My 'alsamixer' does not show the "line-in" as a possible recording source. In addition, I do NOT have any recording source listed as 'capture'.

However, the line-in does show up in the alsamixer for playback devices and I can hear my audio coming thru the speakers.

Does anyone know how I can set "line-in" as an option to record from? Is my sound install wrong because it's not showing up, and I don't have this 'capture' as a device either as I see on many threads regarding these audigy cards.

I've tried to install the emu-tools that are in the extra on the slack 11 cd's. But I'm thinking that they do NOT apply. The readme is from 1999 and changelog from 2001.

uname -r => 2.6.17.13 on slackware 11.0 I'm using the stock slackware huge 26 kernel.

The program I'm trying to use to record from uses /dev/dsp and I do have one.

Could I have a /dev/dsp issue?

just curious, which version of alsa are you using? Or are you using teh 2.6.17.13 modules from /extra?

Hi Daedra,

I loaded the pc up with Slack 11.0 with the 2.4.33 sata kernel.

then I loaded in the 2.6.17.13 kernel, modules and source packages from extra.

So to answer your question, I believe ?? I'm using the modules, no?

But I did run 'alsaconf' after installing the new kernel, then boot into my new kernel.

My computer has onboard audio too. I run KDE as the window manager on that pc. Can Slack 11 & KDE work with two sound cards?

I'd like to use the audigy for day to day, but the line in 2 that is in the external drive bay HD for the audigy sounds horrible on recording (even in windows). It always sounds like it has too much gain & a tad 'distorted' or bass. So maybe I can use the on-board audio to record the line in audio that I want to record. Would that be a simpler fix?
