Well, how can I check whether it's installed or not?
I had to quit X befor building and installing, me dummie.
But still I dont have rendering, but I built without errors, I installed with a warning, I renamed the Xfree-thingy to xorg.conf and everything seems ok but the rendering.
What can I do?

little problem: when I launch make.sh I get this erro

Code:
root@Seth:/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod# ./make.sh
ATI module generator V 2.0
==========================
initializing...
kernel includes at /lib/modules/2.6.7/build/include not found or incomplete
file: /lib/modules/2.6.7/build/include/linux/version.h
the file /lib/modules/2.6.7/build/include/linux/version.h is really missing

I'm using slack 10.0 "as is" (clean install) with kernel 2.6.7 from the testing folder on the cdrom.

I installed all from the linux-2.6.7 folder, including the kernel-headers packages, "ignoring" the kernel-headers.WARNING file in the folder.

Do I need to recompile myself the kernel?

Thank you soviet power!

It solved my problem, and unreal tournament runs smoothly on slack10

only one correction:
3. cp fglrx-2.6.7.patch /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod

this will copy the patch to the appropriate directory
------------Now cd to the /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod directory than perform step 4
4. patch -p1 < fglrx-2.6.7.patch

Hello again,

well, well, after a lot of trouble I finally got the fglrx modul working.
Everything went fine, without any error or warning, yet if I try to start X my screen just gets black and I can't do anything.
What could this be?

hmmm I am having trouble with the sh make_install.sh the first time I run it it gives me this error:

I get a segmentation fault error. Then if I run it again get this:

Code:
- creating symlink
- recreating module dependency list
- trying a sample load of the kernel module
ERROR: Module fglrx is in use
done.

Hello i think you got the fglrx running check that with " lsmod " at shell if it is there u could try to stop it with "rmmod fglrx" is this dont work u will have to chage or remove the ati driver.

Hello,
I've been following your first post, and when I try ./make_install I get this:

root@Biggmike:/lib/modules/fglrx# sh make_install.sh
- creating symlink
- recreating module dependency list
- trying a sample load of the kernel module
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.7/kernel/drivers/char/drm/fglrx.ko): Invalid module format
failed.
root@Biggmike:/lib/modules/fglrx#

what is going on here? I use 2.6.7 and did the patch thing.

you have to use the mkinitrd command, and add a line to your boot options.
e.g. under LILO

Code:
image = /boot/vmlinuz
  initrd = /boot/initrd.gz <- this is important
  root = /dev/hda6 (whatever your harddrive is)
  label = Linux
  read-only
look at your README.initrd in your /boot folder for more information.

Has anyone got this working with 2.4.26 and a PCI card (9200se or soemthing based on it)? I thought it would be as simple as skipping the patching part of this guide, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting hardware acceleration working.

Oh, I got it working fine on my own. I didn't really do anything to LILO, I just recompiled the kernel with built-in agpgart support (contrary to our comrade here) and with module unloading support.

step 7

if you don't know what it does, you shouldn't be using a computer.

unless it does something different in mac....

does that guy have patches for other kernel versions? i'm on 2.5

i don't really want to patch up... maybe i'll patch down to 2.4

Um im stuck following your instructions here is what happens: It just sits at the file to patch .. im not sure what to do...

Code:
root@darkstar:/home/pm# cp fglrx-2.6.7.patch /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod
root@darkstar:/home/pm# patch -p1 < fglrx-2.6.7.patch
can't find file to patch at input line 5
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?
The text leading up to this was:
--------------------------
|Common subdirectories: a/2.6.x and b/2.6.x
|diff -puN a/agpgart_be.c b/agpgart_be.c
|--- a/agpgart_be.c     2004-05-06 22:51:27.000000000 -0400
|+++ b/agpgart_be.c     2004-06-17 12:44:19.000000000 -0400
--------------------------
File to patch:
