I seem to be having a problem ... I've changed from win/slack dualboot, to slack only for a few days, had some troubles with some lilo-bootloader remains, but solved every problem
except for this one: yep an ATI story again
I'm using the stock slack 10.0 kernel ... as I know 2.6.x kernel can give some troubles with ATI so I just wanted a working sys
The only game I play is Q3, and I kind of play it a lot, so when I installed my ATI drivers (I have a R9700pro) and I try to ran Q3, it started but everything was going really slow, 1 fps like ...
so, completely stunned, I ran glxgears:
Quote:
bash-2.05b$ glxgears
12358 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2471.600 FPS
14430 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2886.000 FPS
14276 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2855.200 FPS
this score is kinda low
some FGLRXINFO:
Quote:
bash-2.05b$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9500 Pro Generic
OpenGL version string: 1.3.4641 (X4.3.0-3.14.6)
This I find really weird ... I know the chipset of the 9500 is kind of thesame as the 9700 one, so I do understand there's a possibility of the system seeing it as a 9500, but this is something I do not want tho
I've just read that kernel 2.4.x doesn't support AGP 8X, can somebody verify this? and also verify that that would mean I'd have to compile a 2.6.x kernel?
