Ati 3.7.6 + 2.6.3 + Kde 3.2.1

I know this has been gone over and over and over again but I'm still having some problems. This is what i have done so far:

Downloaded the new ati driver 3.7.6 (released 3/10/04)
rpm2tgz
pkgtool (to remove older driver which didn't work either)
installpkg new driver
cd /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod
chmod a+rx make.sh
./make.sh
cd ..
chmod a+rx make_install.sh
fglfxconfig
xfree86-dga = y
external agpgart = y
modprobe fglrx

a lsmod shows that agpgart and fglrx are running but when i do a fglrxinfo it is still giving me the mesa drivers...

I have made sure that the XF86Config says the driver is fglrx

anything else to try?

thanks

Did you install the driver as root?

check you /var/log/XFree86.0.log file... it will give you ideas as too what is failing..

This is from that file, could this be the problem? If so, how do i go about fixing it?

Just a thought. Did you delete your old driver first?

i removed the old tgz file using pkgtool yes. But then i thought it may be still using the old module so i rmmod fglrx and reinstalled the new ati driver and went through the process again. Just to make sure. and still it is saying mesa drivers.

Instead of su to root, try logging in as root and reinstall the driver as root. Then go into X as root and check to see if the driver loaded. If the driver did load as root, it should now also work as a user.
