Asymptote and the texlive slackbuild

The texlive slackbuild installs 1GB worth of files which provide support for many, many tex-based systems. Certainly LaTex and pdftex etc work fine.

There also appear to be in the package support files for asymptote which can be used to generate vector graphics in tex documents. However, although various asymptote files appear to be included (eg in the directory /usr/share/texmf-dist/asymptote, including a GUI for driving the system, the main executable (asy) which does the real asymptote work, does not seem to be supplied.

Does anybody know how asymptote can be made to work with the slackware texlive package? Or what else might need to be downloaded and from where? I have seen that there is an Arch asymptote package which contains the /usr/bin/asy binary. If I was to just extract this from the arch tgz might it work?

Thanks

To answer my own question: As a quick hack, compiling asymptote from the sourceforge source code tarball followed by "make" and "make install" seems to do the trick. It installs the asymptote executable into /usr/local/bin and further support files into /usr/local/other_directories. All seems to work without dire consequences on other parts of the texlive functionality,
