Question Asunder filename options, or other app?

I am not a big multimedia type, but usually keep a collection of my favorite tracks on my HD while I work. I have not ripped any for a year or two since becoming a full time Slacker and had been using Grip under Mandriva.

I see that Grip is a Gnome app and there is no build script on SBo so I just installed asunder. It does what I want - CD to ogg - but it builds those long nasty filenames with all manner of special characters in them!

I see no option to change that behaviour, am I missing something? I can easily script something to change those after the fact but what a pain...

Recommendations for an alternative? I think a graphic app would be prefered for this task but text is fine too.

Hi

I just installed Asunder as well, it works great. To change the way the file name is created go to Preferences/File Names and modify the settings for Music File.

Alternately you can use k3b to rip from cd to ogg.

Asunder kind of grows on you...

Thanks samac

Yes I saw that, and it is so close... with Grip I had the same basic thing but with an option to build paths and filenames without spaces and special characters. But asunder seems to have no such filter built in.

I dont rip CDs very often so it is only a small annoyance to enter a directory name and just use the track number from asunder, then rename the track files to reflect the title afterward.

But other than that, I agree, asunder works great - good tool for the job!

I have always avoided K3b, and can't actually tell you why - is that odd? I probably had a bad experience with it at some time, but I do all my burning from the command line, usually via ssh, so I don't 'miss' a GUI for those tasks. But I'll have a fresh look at K3B too.
